Obituary for William "Bill" B. Wetzel

WILLIAM "BILL" B. WETZEL, 87 of Weirton, WV passed away Friday December 1, 2017 at the Weirton Geriatric Center. He was born February 2, 1930 in Shinnston, WV and was the son of the late Herbert Jerl Wetzel, Sr. and Hazel Cross Wetzel. He was also preceded in death by a son, John Scott Wetzel (1976); sister, Betty Harding.

Bill was an active member of Weirton Heights Memorial Baptist Church where he sang in the choir, founded the Pairs & Spares Sunday school class, and served in many capacities throughout the church; Weirton Lodge No. 171 A.F. & A.M.; US Navy veteran of the Korean War; lifetime member of the Weirton Christian Center where he served on the board of directors for many years; former board member of Weirton Medical Center; United Way volunteer; Weirton Steel Male Chorus. He was a graduate of Fairmont State College where he also belonged to Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity. Bill retired in 1986 from Weirton Steel Corp. as manager of the
Industrial Relations Dept.

Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Jeannette Ann Hazel Wetzel; daughters, Sara Saffle (Bob) of Wheeling, WV, Sue Gresko (Lou) of Weirton, WV; grandson, Michael Gresko; brother, H.J. "Jerry" Wetzel, Jr. (Jean) of Mannington, WV.

Visitation will be Monday December 4, 2017 5:00-8:00 p.m. at STEEL & WOLFE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 380 Penco Road, Weirton, WV. Additional visitation will be held Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. until time of the funeral/committal services at 11:00 a.m. at Weirton Heights Memorial Baptist Church, 121 Ivy Street, Weirton, WV with Pastor Holley Faulkner and Pastor William Stout presiding. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Weirton Heights Memorial Baptist Church Memorial Fund, 121 Ivy Street, Weirton, WV 26062.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of the Weirton Geriatric Center and Serra Manor for the kindness and compassion they provided to Bill and his family.
