Ruth Coates Obituary
RUTH A. COATES, 93 of Weirton, WV passed away Friday May 19, 2017 at Woodland Hills Manor, Weirton, WV. She was born April 11, 1924 in Steubenville, OH. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Dorothy Smith Campbell. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Roy Richard Coates (8-10-67); son, David L. Coates (4-3-2013); brother, Ray Campbell.
Ruth was a member of Cove Presbyterian Church; GFWC Weirton Womens Club; one of the first majorettes of Steubenville High School; Tri-State Marine Corps Club; veteran of WWII USMC, aviation machinist. "Once a Marine, always a Marine". Ruth was dedicated to raising her young family after her husbands death at his age of 42 in 1967. She then went on to work at Weirton Medical Center in the business office in reimbursements.
Surviving are her sons, Charles "Chuck" Coates of Parker, AZ, Drew Coates (Melinda) of Weirton, WV; eight grandchildren; seven great grandchildren.
A private family visitation will be held at STEEL & WOLFE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 380 Penco Road, Weirton, WV where Dr. J.E. Rudiger will preside. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery, Steubenville, OH where military funeral honors will be rendered by the USMC honor guard.
