Alice Orr Obituary
ALICE MAE STEPHENSON ORR, 88 of Weirton, WV went home to be with her loving Savior and Lord on Thursday March 16, 2017. She was born May 3, 1928, to Rhonal and Thelma Edwards Stephenson and on July 18, 1948, at home in Hamilton County, Ohio. She married her high school sweetheart,
Kenneth M. Orr, Jr. all of whom preceded her in death.
Alice grew up in her hometown of Grafton, WV, where she spent most of her young life with her parents and brothers, John (Rose) Stephenson of Ravenswood, WV and Eugene (Jane) Stephenson, who preceded her in death.
Alice and Kenneth were the proud parents of three children: Perry Michael Orr (Anita) of Weirton, WV; Cathy Jo Orr Rotunda (John) of Fairmont, WV; and Kimberly Marie Orr Ganoe (Gary) of Hopewell, OH. The absolute joys of their lives were their 10 grandchildren, Nicholas, Dana, Kerri, Nicole, Ryan, Natalie, Sean, Nikki-Jo, Gracie, and Cherish. They also have 15 great grandchildren and 1 on the way.
Alice "Sis" was a telephone operator, a beautician, home health aide, Avon distributor, and homemaker. Alice opened a beauty salon in her home and taught at the Weirton Beauty Academy. She was a member of Tri-State Church of God, where she attended faithfully, until her illness. She was instrumental in establishing the Weirton Women's Aglow, and she opened her home to help begin Maranatha Assembly of God. Alice loved to read mystery novels, do needlepoint, spend a whole day shopping and then out to dinner, host holiday events, and doing anything adventurous and/or especially spontaneous.
Alice's free spirit and childlike wonder, are just a fraction of what made her so special to those who loved and knew her. She would often be found playing games with her grandchildren, helping them set up obstacle courses in the backyard, sneaking them off to the pool in the summer, or taking care of the next stray animal to show up on her doorstep. She was full of spunk, energy and life, and had a playful
spirit. Alice never lost her joy and she left this world better off than when she entered it.
Visitation will be 4:00-7:00 p.m. Monday March 20, 2017 at TRI-STATE CHURCH of GOD, 3535 West Street, Weirton, WV with funeral services honoring Alice's life to be held Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. (private
viewing at 9:00 a.m.) with Pastor Kenn Jacobs and Pastor Joshua Martin presiding.
Graveside service will be held at Woodsdale Memorial Park, Grafton, WV at 2:00 p.m.
Floral arrangements may be sent directly to the Tri-State Church of God.
