Betty L. Alkire

BETTY L. ALKIRE, 87 of Weirton, WV passed away Wednesday June 13, 2018 at The Carriage Inn, Steubenville, OH. She was born June 16, 1930 in Ritchie County, WV. The daughter of the late Frank G. and Mary Jane Varner Midcap. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Willis C. Alkire (2007); sister, Mary Edith Cronin; brothers, Okey J. Midcap, Roy W. Midcap, Bob Midcap.

Betty was a member of Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church where she was very active in the church choir and other church activities; Weirton Medical Center Foundation; life member of the Weirton Medical Center auxiliary with 25 years; Weirton Chapter No.147 OES for 50 years having served in many capacities, including as past matron. Betty retired from WalMart after 17 years, as a cashier in the lawn and garden department.

Surviving are her son, Larry D. Alkire (Patricia) of Weirton, WV; daughter, Carol Jane Chwala (Greg) of Paris, PA; sister, Deloris I. Bell of Walker, WV; grandchildren, James Burdette (Angie), Candie Cook, Emily Irwin, Tessa Alkire, Tyler Alkire (Sarah); six great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren.

Visitation will be 2-4 & 6-8 on Friday June 15, 2018 at STEEL & WOLFE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 380 Penco Road, Weirton, WV. Additional visitation will be Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until time of the funeral at 11:00 a.m. at Paris Presbyterian Church, 127 Steubenville Pike, Burgettstown (Paris), PA with Reverend Dr. Christina Hosler and David Midcap (nephew) presiding. Weirton Chapter No.147 OES service will be Friday at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
