BRIAN K. WETZEL, 59, of Weirton, WV, passed unexpectedly Sunday, August 17, 2025 at home. He was born May 7, 1966 in Weirton, son of Jean A. Gribben Wetzel and the late Corliss K. “Bud” Wetzel (Sept. 2024).
Brian's life was deeply rooted in his love for music, a passion that touched nearly every aspect of his journey. A devoted member of the Weirton Heights Church of Christ, he proudly served as a song leader for many years, sharing his voice and spirit with the congregation.
A gifted musician, Brian mastered numerous instruments, with a special fondness for the guitar and banjo. His musical talent earned him a full scholarship to Ohio Valley College, later continuing his education at Oklahoma Christian University. Balancing dedication and determination, he worked as campus police to support his studies—never letting it interfere with his true calling in music.
Brian was an active member of several a cappella groups, lending his voice to weddings and special events, always bringing harmony and joy wherever he performed. His love for history also led him to participate in Civil War reenactments as a member of the 27th Infantry Battalion, and he played with the Shriver Greys Band for over a decade.
Whether leading worship, performing on stage, reenacting history, or simply playing banjo at home with his beloved family, Brian's talent, warmth, and unwavering spirit will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
Brian worked at Lauttamus Communications in Weirton for several years and will be missed by his coworkers and friends.
In addition to his mother, Brian is survived by his brother, Curtiss Wetzel (Kim); nephews, Caleb Wetzel (Tara), Joshua Wetzel (Abbey), Joseph Wetzel (Katelynn), and Isaac Wetzel; grand nephew, Miles Lincoln Wetzel, and grand niece, Millie Marie Wetzel.
Per Brian’s wishes, there will be no visitation at this time. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Steel & Wolfe Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Weirton.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Brian’s memory to Steel & Wolfe Funeral Home, 3721 Main Street, Weirton, WV 26062, to assist his family at this time.
