Carol E. Crain Kohnfelder

CAROL E. CRAIN KOHNFELDER, 84, of Weirton, WV, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, July 22, 2026. She was born July 3, 1942 in Washington, PA, daughter of the late J. William Riggs and the late Bertha Mae McCrerey Riggs. She is also preceded in death by her loving husband of 35 years, Ronald “Ron” Kohnfelder (2019); and brother, William Thomas Riggs.

Carol earned her master’s degree in education from West Liberty State College and worked for over 30 years as a teacher at Liberty Elementary School in Weirton. She was a faithful member of New Life Church in Weirton, where she praised God and enjoyed time with friends in the church’s Gems Group.

Carol is survived by her sons, Richard Crain of Weirton and William Crain of Richmond, OH; daughter, Vicki Crain of Pittsburgh; stepdaughter, Suzanne Sanders (Mark) of Texas; stepson, Robert Kohnfelder of North Carolina; and grandchildren, Hannah, Bailey, Lauren, and Joshua.

Per Carol’s wishes, there will be no visitation. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Steel & Wolfe Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Weirton. A Celebration of Life for Carol will take place Monday, August 3, at 11:00 AM at New Life Church, 1492 Knights Road, Weirton, WV.
