Connie Mecannic Obituary

With heavy hearts, the family of Connie Ostrich Mecannic of Paris, PA, announces her passing on May 31, 2024 after suffering a traumatic brain injury in 2014. Connie, a loving sister, aunt, great-aunt, and cousin, was born on September 20, 1957, and was the middle child of the late Pete and Leanna Lyons Ostrich. She was the tenth of twenty-six grandchildren of the late Halbert and Esther Neely Lyons and the third of five grandchildren of the late Andy and Jelena Ostojich.

Connie graduated from Union High School in 1976 and soon after began a distinguished career spanning over 20 years in the Tin Mill, Temper Mill Department at Weirton Steel. Despite her petite stature at 4 feet 11 inches, she excelled in roles from Stocker to Reelman, Feeder, and Roller between the number 4 and number 5 Skin Mills, giving 110% to every task. Connie was known for her extraordinary work ethic and deep love for her job.

Family was the cornerstone of Connie's life. Her nieces, Nicolette "Leann" and Hannah, were her greatest joy. Although unable to have children of her own, she cherished her nieces as if they were hers, often volunteering at concession stands, school dances, car washes, and dance classes to support them. Connie's unique personality was marked by wholehearted love for those she cared about and a candid nature with those she did not.

Connie is survived by her brother, Andrew of Paris, PA, her sister, Donna (John) Bendick of Paris, PA, her nieces, Nicolette Leann (Bryan) Churilla of Pittsburgh, PA, and Hannah Marie (Chris) Wilson of Paris, PA, her great-nephew, Brooks Milo Churilla, and great-niece, Blair Estelle Churilla, and her ex-husband, Harry Mecannic Jr. of Frankfort Springs, PA. She is also remembered by her best friend and mill coworker, Robert Shockley.

The family extends special thanks to Sally, Savannah, Tina, and Veronica at South Hills Rehab & Wellness Center for their dedicated care and kindness. Deep gratitude also goes to her best friend, Terry Bonner Reid, for unwavering support and companionship, especially over the past ten years.

Connie's spirit will be fondly remembered for her vibrant personality and her ability to bring people together. She is now at peace in Heaven, reunited with her parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who preceded her. Her legacy of love and laughter will live on in the hearts of all who knew her until we meet again for eternity.
