DOROTHY MARIE RANDOLPH, 84, of Weirton, WV, formerly of Spencer, WV passed away peacefully at home on November 21, 2024, after a long illness. Her daughter Sandra, son in law Roger and companion Peanut were by her side.
Dorothy was born to the late Foster C. and Audry L. (Leary) Fore Sr. on October 7, 1940 and grew up in Reedy, WV. She attended Spencer High School with dreams of being a nurse. She left home at fifteen to live in the nurses quarters and work as an aide at Gordon’s Hospital in Spencer, going home on weekends. Once she graduated high school the following year on July 18th, 1958, she married Guy Randolph and eventually had seven children. She was the force behind her husband’s construction company and other businesses doing bookkeeping, payroll and taxes. She worked along side her husband and also kept the books for their cattle farms in Roane County. She worked several years as a tax preparer for H &R Block and later she worked as the office manager of the livestock market her husband leased in Parkersburg, WV.
She was also a homemaker. Dorothy enjoyed making special desserts for her family especially at the holidays. She dearly loved her children and grandchildren and attended 4-H and other events they participated in throughout the years. She was always there for all of them, to quietly listen, encouraging them and pushing them to do better. She was proud of her daughter Sharon when she graduated nursing school since she had once dreamed of becoming a nurse herself.
She believed in service to others, loved volunteering and was heavily involved in 4-H as a leader, a 4-H All Star and a member of the Roane County 4-H Foundation. She also served on the Roane County Solid Waste Authority board and was involved with WV Women in Agriculture. She was a member of the Republican Womens Club and enjoyed working the polls during elections.
After relocating to Weirton, and prior to her illness becoming too severe, she embarked on a wide variety of experiences such as a cross country train trip with friends to Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon and many other sites. She loved politics and waited in line with her daughter Sandra eight hours in freezing weather in 2016 to attend Donald Trump’s Pittsburgh presidential rally at the David L. Lawrence Center. Once allowed into the building they were able to secure spots directly in front of the podium. She also visited the Trump House with her daughter and her friend Sarah in Latrobe, Pa that same year. She traveled to the World’s Largest Christmas Store in Frankenmuth, MI, vacationed on Sanibel Island, FL, Cape May, NJ, and Outer Banks, NC. She visited Prabhupada’s Palace of Gold, Hershey Park, Pittsburgh’s National Aviary, and enjoyed Christmas teas at Phipps Conservatory. She attended local church services, fundraisers and galas for numerous non-profits in Pittsburgh, Wheeling and Weirton. She enjoyed making new friends and spending time at the Hancock County Senior Center, was a member of their quilting group and took trips to quilt shows in Erie, Pa and the AQS Quilt Week in Paducah, Ky. She enjoyed attending the Mother Earth News festival at Seven Springs and the Pennsylvania Tea Festival in Mechanicsburg, Pa. She also found she enjoyed painting and entered local painting shows. She attended Pittsburgh Oktoberfest, WVU football and basketball games, Wheeling Nailers hockey games and Pittsburgh Pirates games with her son in law Roger. She decided she wanted to learn how to hunt mushrooms and attended several mushroom workshops and spent a lot of time hiking with her daughter Sandra and her companion Honey Bear. She loved mushroom hunting especially hunting morels. In the spring she’d accompany her daughter to dig ramps and in the fall would go on paw paw picking excursions, along with hiking in Hocking Hills State Park in OH and state parks in WV and PA.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her two infant sons Guy Jr. and David Randolph and an infant granddaughter Kaitlyn Hersman, her faithful companion Honey Bear, sisters Mary Belle Fore, Linda Romine and Jacqueline Holcomb, brothers Foster C. Fore Jr., and Mike Fore.
She is survived by her daughter Sandra, her son in law Roger Lyons whom she lived with for ten years, her loyal companion Peanut, three other daughters Patricia (Ed Peckham), Brenda (Mike Garrett), Sharon Randolph and one son Richard (Jennifer) and grandchildren Joshua, Kelly, Derek, Olivia, Dustin and Michele, several great grandchildren, one sister Dixie Rice, many nieces, nephews and close friends.
It was Dorothy’s wish to be cremated. There were no services. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Steel & Wolfe Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Weirton, WV.
Memorial contributions may be made to any local animal shelter or any domestic violence shelter. Dorothy also believed in treating others kindly and would have been happy to know someone did an act of kindness in her name.
