Dorothy Stevens Obituary

Dorothy M. Stevens, 87, of Weirton, WV passed away Friday, April 14, 2017 at Acuity Specialty Hospital in Weirton surrounded by her family. She was born June 12,1929 in Middlebourne "Muddy Creek", WV, to Emery and Mildred Weekley, who died in a boating accident on the Ohio River when Dorothy was only 3-years-old. Her aunt and uncle, Claudia and Floyd Sole, raised Dorothy.

Dorothy married the love of her life, Ray Stevens, on July 3,1945. The couple settled in Weirton, WV, in 1946 where they raised six children. Dorothy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, homemaker and a wonderful hostess to all who came through her door. In her younger years she enjoyed family games of dominoes and guests never left her house without several cups of coffee and good conversation fueled by her witty sense of humor. Dorothy enjoyed traveling to the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville and seeing live country shows with her husband. She also loved traveling the Tri-State area listening to live bluegrass bands with her children and grandchildren. Her favorite venues were the Pennyroyal Opera House, Rivers Edge, and the Lincoln Theatre. She spent many evenings on her back porch with her family and her dear neighbor, Eileen Zinaich, drinking coffee. Dorothy was always surrounded by her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren, who knew that "What happens at Grandma's house, stays at Grandma's house". When family and friends would get up to leave, she would always be sure to say,"You don't need to be in a hurry to rush off" and "You be sure to come back soon".
