Elsie I Hair

ELSIE I. HAIR, 94 of Weirton, WV passed away Sunday February 12, 2017 at The Inn at Wyngate, Weirton, WV. She was born August 14, 1922 in Dawson, PA. She was the daughter of the late Elias Emery and Ada Keller Whitmoyer. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Howard Allan Hair (2-2-2014).

Elsie was a graduate of California State Teachers College in California, PA. Upon graduation, she taught elementary school in Manor, PA; and then she was a Peterson Penmanship Supervisor, traveling to teach penmanship in schools in western PA and eastern OH. Elsie and Allan were married May 9, 1947 and she was a homemaker for 20 years before going back to her beloved profession, teaching. She then taught at New Cumberland Elementary School for 15 years until her retirement in 1982. Elsie was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Weirton, having served as a Deaconess, Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School teacher, and was past president of the Phi Tau Kappa Circle. Elsie and Allan were also members of the Spinning Gears Square Dance Club for many years. The Hairs enjoyed many winters in Florida upon their retirement.

Elsie is survived by her son, Scott Hair (Debbie) of Parkersburg, WV; daughters, Darla Phillips (Jon) of Weirton, WV; Janet Newbrough (Francis) of Lady Lake, FL; five grandchildren, Emily Hair, Elliott Hair, Kerri Phillips, Francis Newbrough (Amy), Stephanie Howley (Joe); one great grandson Wyatt Howley; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Friday February 17, 2017 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the STEEL & WOLFE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 380 Penco Road, Weirton, WV, where the funeral will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Donald Dague presiding. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
