Gene E. Saunders

GENE E. SAUNDERS, 81 of Weirton, WV passed away Wednesday November 23, 2016 at Valley Hospice, Steubenville, OH. He was born June 27, 1935 in Shinnston, WV. He was the son of the late Darrell W. "Pappy" Saunders and Tessie M. Russell Saunders. He was also preceded in death by his sons, Keith and Kirk Saunders; brothers, Robert and Russell Saunders.

Gene was an Army Reservist; graduate of Follansbee High School, 25 year club of Weirton Steel, avid golfer, bowler, fishing with his grandchildren, and also watching Nascar with his son-in-law, Les. He retired after 45 years, from the sheet mill of Weirton Steel Corp.

Surviving are his wife, Flora Lou Yost Saunders; sons, Randy Saunders (Charlotte) of NC, David Thomas (Jeri) of TX, Richard Thomas (Susan) of TN; daughter, Linda Shughart (Les) of Weirton, WV; daughter-in-law, Dianna Saunders of Weirton, WV; ten grandchildren; several great grandchildren.

Visitation will be Tuesday November 29, 2016 5:00-8:00 p.m. at STEEL & WOLFE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 390 Penco Road, Weirton, WV where the funeral will be held Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
