Genevieve Meyer Obituary

GENEVIEVE N. MEYER, 91 of Weirton, WV passed away Wednesday April 12, 2017 at The Laurels of Steubenville, OH. She was born January 8, 1926 in Hollidays Cove, WV. She was the daughter of the late Hugh David and Myrtle Fox Thompson. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Marie Williamson, Vivina Crain, Virginia Welch, Elizabeth "Betty" Thompson; brothers, Orbin "Bud" Thompson, Floyd Thompson.

Genevieve was a lifetime member of Cove Presbyterian Church where for many years she was active for those in need in the "clothes closet"; 1943 graduate of Weir High School where she played the trumpet in the marching band. She was a loving and caring person with her family always coming first. She was always there with her husband Joe, when her family needed her. In her younger years she enjoyed roller skating and bowling. She also enjoyed rooting for the Pittsburgh Pirates, WVU sports, where she was a season ticket holder for 40 years, and the WVU marching band. Her employment included working as a bookkeeper for the Bank of Weirton, and Citizens Bank. Her cherished "employment" was that as a homemaker.

Surviving are her husband of 66 years, who she was united in marriage with on March 26, 1951 in Weirton, WV, Joseph H. Meyer; daughter, Dr. Paula Stout (Dr. Thomas Stout) of Morgantown, WV; grand puppies, Odie and Gracie.

Visitation will be Friday April 14, 2017 2-4 & 6-8 at STEEL & WOLFE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 3721 Main Street, Weirton, WV and also Saturday 10:00 a.m. until time of the funeral at 11:00 a.m. at Cove Presbyterian Church. Dr. J.E. Rudiger will preside. Burial will follow at St. Johns Cemetery, Colliers, WV.
