John Hollister, Jr. Obituary

John Hollister, Jr., 86, of Weirton, passed peacefully on Monday, February 24, 2025. He was born July 26, 1938 in Jane Lew, WV, son of the late John Hollister and Jessie Madeline Romine Hollister. He is also preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Tura Hollister, and half-brother, Raymond Campbell.

John graduated from Glenville State College with degrees in Chemistry and Education. Following graduation, he served in the US Army. After his service and marriage, he and his loving wife relocated to Weirton where they raised their family and he went on to serve his church and community for years to come. John retired from Weirton Steel Corporation after years of working as a Chemist. He officiated basketball for 28 years and volleyball for 10 years throughout the Ohio Valley, creating lasting relationships with coaches and student athletes.

John was a devout member of the Weirton Heights Church of Christ, where he served in faithful devotion. John was the consummate people person. He loved nothing more than talking with people, sharing stories, helping those in need. He spent years of service to others, often away from the public eye. His unwavering love and support of his son, Scotty, allowed him to become an advocate for those with special needs and disabilities. He, along with his wife, dedicated their lives to his care and happiness, along with the needs of so many other special needs children. He was a champion for these kids. “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for Me,”  Matthew 25:40.

John was an avid sports fan. He spent many days taking his son Scotty to local high school sporting events, WVU football games, and Pittsburgh Penguins and Steelers games. He was a lover of music and attended several concerts later in his life. Countless memories were made with his family and Scotty’s friends as they attended country music shows and his personal favorite, Jimmy Buffett. But John’s greatest love was his God and his family. His happiest moments were spent in casual days surrounded by those he loved, especially in the presence of his grandson, Zachary, who he adored. He will be missed by all who knew him, leaving a void impossible to fill.

John is survived by his loving children, Lorie Martin (Bill), John Hollister (Tina), and Scotty Hollister; and grandson, Zachary.
