Leonard Sole Obituary
Leonard C. Sole, 74, of Weirton , passed away Friday, July 14,2017 at his home. He was born in Steubenville, OH,on April 27, 1943, a son to the late Leonard Ross Sole and the late Thelma Marie Carroll. On October 2,1965, he was joined in marriage in the Colliers United Methodist Church to the love of his life, Linda Marie Pannett. They enjoyed fifty-one years of marriage.
Leonard was retired from Weirton Steel Corporation with thirty years of service and the Weirton Wal Mart with fifteen and a half years of service. He was a 1961 Weir High School graduate. He attended the Central Technical Institute of Kansas City, MO. He enlisted in the United States Army in May of 1962, where he served for three years at the U.S. Army Hospital, Fort Polk, La., and was in charge of the mail service for the hospital. Later he was promoted to Specialist 5th class and was assigned the position of Assistant Chief Medical NCO. While serving with the hospital unit he was named Outstanding Soldier of the Quarter and was awarded a Good Conduct Medal. He was elected Constable of Brooke County in May of 1972, serving a four year term. He was a member of the Weirton Heights Volunteer Fire Department for fifteen years, five as a Junior fireman and ten as a Senior fireman. He served as Assistant Fire Chief, Vice President, Secretary,and Captain of the Rescue Squad .He also organized the Junior Fire Department Explorers Post and served as Senior Advisor. He was a member of the New Cumberland Lodge No. 22, Scottish Rite of Wheeling, WV, and Osiris Shriners of Wheeling, WV. He was past president of the Northern Panhandle Shrine Club of Weirton and the Weirton Steel Twenty-Five Year Club.
Leonard was blessed with and is survived by a loving family including his wife Linda Marie Sole; son Chad Allen (Misty) Sole and their children Alexis, Cassie,and Brian; son Dr. Leonard Scott (Kathy) Sole and their children Arienne, Axton,and Nicholas; sister Norma (Henry) Tarr and his faithful niece,Verna Tarr.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at the STEEL & WOLFE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES,Inc., 380 PENCO ROAD, WEIRTON,WV, 26062 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm. Funeral services will be held Wednesday 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Reverend Larry Barkley and Reverend Brian Richardson officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens,Weirton.
