Paul Lucas Obituary

PAUL D. LUCAS, 87, of Englewood, FL, formerly of Weirton, WV, passed away peacefully with his family by his side Thursday, July 11, 2024 at Englewood Community Hospital. He was born August 19, 1936 in Clinton, PA, son of the late Michael M. Lucas and Margaret Alderman Lucas. He is also preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years, Cora Jean Stewart Lucas (2015).

Paul was a US Veteran beginning his military career in 1953 in the US Marine Corp.  He served proudly until 1958 before transferring to the US Navy where he would serve as a journalist, while also earning his bachelor’s degree in journalism.  After retiring from the US Navy in 1983, Paul worked for several different car dealerships as service manager before finishing out his civilian career with Fluor Daniels as a heavy equipment operator.

He was not a man of many words, but he was a friend and sponsor to many people throughout his 47 years of sobriety in the AA organization.  He never missed a meeting no matter his location.  He always found a place to call home throughout his relocations over the years.  Some of his many hobbies were playing the piano and keyboard, reading old westerns, and fishing the piers of the Florida Coast.  He was an avid Pittsburgh Steeler fan cheering them on no matter a win or a loss.  And he never missed an opportunity to catch an episode of Gunsmoke.

Paul is survived by his sons, Paul D. Lucas, Jr. of Weirton, John M. Lucas (Kimberly) of Weirton, and Rodney J. Lucas of Vero Beach, FL; one sister, Alda Crooks of Ohio; seven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and one great great-granddaughter.

Military honors will take place Saturday, November 9, 2024 at 9:00 AM at National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville, PA, where inurnment will follow for both Paul and Cora.

Local arrangements have been entrusted to Steel & Wolfe Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Weirton.
