Paul D. Welch, Sr.

PAUL D. WELCH, SR., 93 of Weirton, WV passed away Friday August 11, 2017 at home. He was born November 12, 1923 in Steubenville, OH. He was the son of the late Harry S, and Margaret Yocum Welch. Paul was also preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Virginia Rae Thompson Welch (3-29-2014); son, Paul D. Welch, Jr.(4-14-2015); siblings, Margaret McKay, William Welch, Harry Welch, Jr., Elizabeth Brandt, Helen Erwin, Mary Miller Olive, Jean Woodward.

Paul was a member of Cove Presbyterian Church; Toronto (OH) Lodge No. 583, F a US Army veteran/paratrooper where he was a recipient of the Purple Heart having served in the Battle of the Bulge, Ardennes Region, Belgium. A Steubenville High School, 1942 graduate. Paul retired in 1982 from the Research & Development offices of National Steel Corp./Weirton Division.

Surviving are his son, Thomas E. Welch of St. Peters, MO; daughter in law, Frances Welch of Bartlett, IL; granddaughter, Dana Welch (Luis Ortiz) of Sheffield, IL; great granddaughter, Liliana Ortiz of Sheffield, IL.

Visitation will be Monday August 14, 2017 2-4 & 6-8 at STEEL & WOLFE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 3721 Main Street, Weirton, WV. Additional visitation will be Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of the funeral at 11:00 a.m. at Cove Presbyterian Church, Weirton, WV with Dr. J.E. Rudiger presiding. Military funeral honors will be rendered by American Legion Post No.10 honor guard and the WV honor guard at Fort Steuben Burial Estates, Wintersville, OH.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested in Paul's name to Cove Presbyterian Church, 3404 Main Street, Weirton, WV 26062.
