Rebecca Sierra Cogar

REBECCA SIERRA COGAR, 75, of Weirton, WV, passed Saturday, April 13, 2025 at WVU Medicine, Weirton Medical Center. She was born September 2, 1949 in Clarksburg, WV, daughter of the late Laura Ester Cunningham Gatts and George W. Smearman. She was also preceded in death by her son, Joseph Cogar; siblings, David James Smearman, Clarence Edward Smearman, Paul Richard “Dick” Smearman, Kathleen “Sis” Smearman Amabile, Daniel A. Smearman, Dennis Allen Smearman, Francis Vaca, Mike Smearman, and Tom Smearman.

Rebecca was Christian by faith. She worked as a Nurse’s Aide in Home Health for many years. Her world revolved around her family, especially her beloved grandchildren.

Rebecca is survived by her son, David Leroy Cogar (Bonita “Boo”) of Beech Island, SC; daughter, Laura Boyer (Richard) of Treemont, PA; grandchildren, Dr. Sierra Brown (Kyle Schneck), Robert Cogar, Leigha Cogar, and Sean Brown; great-grandchildren, Maggie and Mason Cogar; brother, Thomas “Buck” Smearman (Sandy); twin sister, Rachel McCauley; and “unbiological sister”, Lin Mosgrove.

Per Rebecca’s wishes, there will be no visitation. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Steel & Wolfe Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Weirton, WV.
