ULAH JOSEPHINE “JOSIE” ZUCOSKY, 95, of Weirton, WV passed away Friday December 22, 2023 at Weirton Geriatric Center. She was born May 31, 1928 in Doddridge County, WV, daughter of the late George and Goldie Blake Kelley. She is also preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years, Alexander J. Zucosky (2013); grandson, Commander Andy Kaminski; brothers, George Burl Kelley, Dale Kelley, Bernard Kelley, and Jim Kelley; sister, Carrie Lee Sponaugle.
Josie was a member of Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church, where she was involved in Christian Mothers. Josie was an avid bowler, especially in the Tuesday Morning Breakfast League. She also worked for many years at Kelley’s Truck Stop in Pottery Addition, OH. For many years, Josie battled with Alzheimer’s Disease and was proud to donate her brain to the Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center at UPMC.
Josie is survived by daughter, Christine Kelly (late Tim) of North Fayette Twp, PA; sons, Alexander Patrick “Pat” Zucosky (Jane) of Ft. Collins, CO, David Michael Zucosky (late Julie Rio) of Port Charlotte, FL, and James Ronald Zucosky (Bernadette) of Weirton, WV; 6 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild; brother, Garner “Hoot” Kelley (Deloris) of Weirton; sisters, Carol Verner (Paul) of Wooster, OH and Frances McFerren of KY.
Visitation will take place Sunday January 7, 2024 from 1:00 to 5:00 PM at Steel & Wolfe Funeral Home, 380 Penco Road, Weirton, WV. Funeral Mass will be held Monday January 8 at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 200 Preston Avenue, Weirton, WV with Reverend Tony Thurston presiding. Interment will follow at New Cumberland Cemetery, New Cumberland, WV.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Josie’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, 8180 Greensboro Drive, Suite 400, McLean, VA 22102. Josie's children would like to thank Hope Cottage and Weirton Geriatric Center for the wonderful care of their mother.
